ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Graham Govan is a Scottish photographer and digital artist. Born in Glasgow in 1950, Graham initially studied fine art at Edinburgh College of Art in the early 1970’s. This was followed by a number of years working in the voluntary sector and social care. It was during this period that photography entered his life and it soon became his creative passion. After completing a diploma course at Batley School of Art, in 1976 Graham began a successful career in commercial photography that lasted over three decades, firstly working in London and then in his home city. Eventually, feeling the need to reconnect with his artistic roots, Graham returned to Art School in Glasgow studying fine art photography under Prof. Thomas Joshua Cooper, graduating in the year 2000. The following year Graham was awarded a Scottish Arts Council grant to study printmaking at Dundee Contemporary Arts print studio.

Over the course of the last twenty-five years Graham has produced a body of work encompassing street photography, still life and digital art. His involvement with a variety of mediums reflects Graham’s interest in art more generally and he draws inspiration from both contemporary and historical artworks in his practice. A member of the Glasgow Group Artist’s Co-operative, Graham has exhibited widely and his work is held in private collections throughout the UK. He is currently involved in producing a book of his street photography and he continues to develop his artistic vision with passion and commitment.
